Teacher Grants – At our monthly board meetings, the Howell Education Foundation reviews grant requests submitted by teachers seeking funding for classroom programs. To date, we have reinvested over $150,000 into Livingston County classrooms, supporting innovative curriculum and unique learning experiences for students.

Technology and Learning – Since September 2012, HEF has installed 40 iPads in the 8th grade classes at Highlander Way and Parker Middle Schools. This initiative tracks cognitive learning advancement through technology, and early results have shown positive impacts on student engagement and achievement.

Building Trades Program – The Howell Education Foundation has saved the High School Building Trades class from elimination by purchasing properties for hands-on construction projects. Students, under the guidance of Mark Leahy, renovated and sold a home on Potts Road in Fowlerville. Subsequently, they built and sold a 3,000 sq. ft. home and are currently constructing a new house scheduled for sale in June. This program gives students real-world skills in construction, design, and project management.

Speakers Bureau – In collaboration with the High School Interact Club (Rotary Jr.), HEF has developed a Speakers Bureau that connects students with professionals across various industries. Speaker topics are student-led based on surveys, providing guidance on career paths and real-world industry insights.

Reaching Higher Program – The Howell Education Foundation has provided over $35,000 in funding for this initiative, founded by educator Susie Dahlman and now led by Kara Cotton-Moore. The program empowers students to overcome challenges, helping at-risk youth avoid drugs, suicide, and disengagement from school or family. HEF is committed to securing additional funding to ensure the program’s longevity and continued impact.

Howell Alumni Program – In 2013, HEF resumed communications with the Howell Alumni network, which now exceeds 17,000 members. We are developing a marketing program to deliver quarterly updates, keeping alumni informed and connected to ongoing initiatives that support students and schools in Livingston County.
